Somebody tweeted this CBS News story about the best places to live to raise children with a love of the outdoors.
Brooklyn may not have the proximity to spectacular wilderness areas that residents of Boulder, Flagstaff, Jackson Hole or Juneau enjoy, but the truth is that there a surprising amount of groups and resources for nature-lovers and active people in NYC, from the 200+ species of birds observable in Prospect Park, to the miles of bike lanes, to the scores of community gardens, to free fishing lessons. And there are dozens of lovely state parks with camping within a 2-hour drive. You can even take Metro-North to the Appalachian Trail.
Living in the most dense urban environment in the US is still no excuse for letting your kids develop "nature deficit disorder."
